Expect marketshare of M1 Macs to rise in 2021

The share of M1 Macs is expected to rise sharply in 2021.

According to a report from the analysis company TrendForce, Apple’s new Mac models with the M1 chip have a market share of 0.8% at present, but this share is expected to increase sharply in 2021.

In a few months, new M1 models of MacBook Pro in both 14in and 16in will be available, which means that Apple’s market share could rise to seven percent.

In 2020, a total of 200.5 million laptops were sold in the world, which is an increase of 22.5% compared to 2019. The forecast for 2021 is 216.8 million units sold, which corresponds to an increase of 8.1%.

In the long run, TrendForce estimates that 70-75% of laptops will run Windows, while 15-20% will run Chrome OS. Mac OS comes up to a maximum of 10%.
